Best Frontier PC Gaming in 2022, In all the years we've been playing the best PC games, 2022 has been by far the strongest year. Not only are things like ray tracing and AI-accelerated supersampling a buzzword in the industry, but a massive hardware shortage has made the hobby more expensive than ever.

Best Frontier PC Gaming in 2022

And because the world of PC gaming is in such a strange place, we thought it would be a good time to look to the future and try to guess what PC gaming will look like next year.

And it looks like 2022 will be a very exciting year: new graphics cards and a full range of games that will not be hampered by the next-gen consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One.

However, frustration could go hand in hand with that excitement, especially if you've been hitting your F5 key in hopes of getting a new graphics card, only to have new ones come out before you can buy a reasonably priced RTX 3080. Who knows, indie games could get even more popular on PC.

Please give us more graphics cards

One of the hardest things to deal with in 2021 was the massive silicon shortage. While this hit everyone, it was a huge blow to PC gamers looking to upgrade, especially after the release of some of the best graphics cards we've seen in years.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 was released in September 2020 and it was a huge upgrade over the previous generation RTX 2080 Super, but even now, more than a year after it first went on sale, it's incredibly difficult. to find. It would be one thing if it was out of stock, but we've seen people buying the cards and reselling them at a huge markup to the point where you can expect to pay double what Nvidia initially charged.

And now that we expect to see Nvidia introduce the RTX 4080 in late 2022, we just hope it will be at least a little easier to get your hands on a new graphics card. It's easy to imagine that there will be a lot of people frustrated if they have had to wait on the sidelines for two generations because there has not been enough supply to update their gaming rigs, especially as PC gaming ramps up the system. requirements, like Xbox One and PS4 finally lag behind.

Truly next-gen

As PC gamers, whenever we hear console makers talk about “next-gen” technology, we always have to restrain ourselves from laughing a little. Most of the technology found on the PS5 and Xbox Series X has been on PCs for years, and now we're starting to see more games take advantage of it.

But one of the biggest advances is in storage technology. Both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 have amazing PCIe 4.0 SSDs, which is certainly not a new thing, but they also have new storage APIs that allow processors to access storage much faster. Fortunately, in Windows 11 we now have access to DirectStorage, which is a storage API that will allow PC games to access your computer's SSD in the same way that newer consoles do. That means all the promises of seamless, giant open worlds that load environments so fast that they don't need loading screens could come to fruition soon. We're not sure if it will happen in 2022, but we hope to at least see it begin.

And of course, we can't talk about gaming tech these days without mentioning ray tracing. Everyone's favorite buzzword has been seen in more and more games these days, and it's starting to get weird to see AAA games launch without some form of it. Both Nvidia and AMD have repeatedly told us that ray tracing will eventually replace rasterization as the default rendering method. That always seemed a bit tricky to us, but looking at how many games the technology has worked in recently, we don't think it works the same way PhysX did. Ray tracing is slowly moving from a buzzword to a mainstay in PC gaming and we're honestly here for it, as long as we can solve GPU supply issues.

Game prices can’t change

One thing that has been really hard to come to terms with the launch of the new consoles is the jump in price for new games, and thankfully that doesn't seem to have taken root on the PC. But that could change!

We have already seen the beginning. When Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade launched on the Epic Games Store in December 2021, it did the launch for $ 69.99, although it is basically an adaptation of an old game. And honestly, we will not tolerate it.

One of the biggest benefits of PC games is that while the initial hardware is more expensive, it is actually cheaper to buy games. While that generally only applies to games that have been out for a while, with big seasonal sales like Steam Winter Sale right now, this is the last platform where games should be this expensive.

Heading into the new year, we really hope that FF7R will be the exception rather than the new rule. Because while it almost seems like old news that games are suddenly 15% more expensive, it's still relatively recent and there's still time to turn it down on PC.

Bloodborne on PC

At this point, almost seven years after its initial release on PS4, we will probably never see Bloodborne make its debut on PC, at least beyond playing it through PS Now. But that doesn't mean we're ever going to stop asking for it. There are some (including us) that we think is the best game From Software has made to date, and we'd love to see it make it to our favorite gaming platform.

And while this has always been something that we never expected would materialize, we are starting to get a bit of hope, mainly because Sony has started putting more and more games on Windows. We'll see Uncharted and God of War in at least 2022, and while we'll never get new PS5 games on the same day as console players, we really don't think it's too much to ask for a 7-year-old. qualification.

And while we only want to play Bloodborne while Discord interrupts us in the background like we do all of our games, we especially want to see Bloodborne on PC because that's where the game could reach its true potential.

The original release on PS4, while one of the best games ever made, remains a technical disaster to this day. There are sections of the game where the frame rate skyrockets, and every time you die you have to go through a long loading time, which makes an already game even more frustrating.

On PC, Bloodborne could easily run at 4K with a locked frame rate of 60fps. And while we typically want everything to run at a minimum of 60fps, it's even more important with a game that relies heavily on reaction times and fast-paced combat.

Listen, we know it's never going to happen, but let's dream.
